Reykjavik, Iceland
My husband and I spent our honeymoon traveling all over Iceland last summer, and we both absolutely fell in lurve with Reykjavik. We loved it so much that we've talked about doing another trip as soon as we can catch another deal with Icelandair (they fly direct from Minneapolis, y'all!).
Reykjavik, you guys. It's awesome.
I can't really put into words why I loved this Scandinavian city so very much. The design is beautiful, the houses are precious and the people are fearless when it comes to fashion. But there's also an energy here in the summer that's indescribable. It's the kind of energy that's familiar, coming from a place where it's also dark and/or winter for a good chunk of the year.
When we returned to the city at the end of our 10-day trip around the Ring Road, we rented an
apartment via
Airbnb in a chill, central neighborhood near the Hallgrímskirkja church (which looks like it’s from The Future, by the way).
I wanted to renounce my American citizenship and stay forever.
It was a huge bonus that this apartment was almost across the street from
Reykjavik Roasters, the coffee shop where we spent most mornings just reading (outside in the stoop-park), drinking perfectly poured lattes and eating black and white Sarah Bernhardt cookies. It was also down the street from
Kaldi Bar, a brewpub that became our regular beer stop. And by "regular," I mean, we went there twice.
Those and other explorations below.
P.S. If you want to read more about Iceland, I posted a few
tips back in September.
