Seven: The 7-Minute Workout App

Seven: The 7-Minute Workout App

True story: I'm not a fitness fiend like many other paleo-ish bloggers are. In fact, I'm 100% positive this is the first post I've ever written about fitness.

My sport is tennis. I would legitimately play it all day everyday if I could. (I will be a very happy retiree someday, hanging out in Palm Springs on a tennis court all winter.) Anyway, because I can't actually play tennis all day everyday (at least not until I'm 60)... I'm trying to be a lot better at working out in additional ways this year (real original resolution, I know).

I downloaded this iPhone app called Seven a while back and I wanted to share it here because I kind of like it. More important than that, I actually use it.

Each round of Seven is, not surprisingly, seven minutes long and based on this scientific 7-Minute Workout. The gist is that you can do a lot of good for your body in just seven minutes.

Normally I'd be all, "PFFT, SEVEN-MINUTE GIMMICKS, AM I RIGHT?" I tried it anyway.

Each session includes twelve 30-second circuits with a "coach" who has a charming accent: jumping jacks, wall sit, push-ups, crunches, step-ups, squats, triceps dips, plank, high-knees, lunges, push-ups with rotation and side plank. You don't need any special equipment — just a chair and a wall. I can even sneak away at work to make it happen.

There's an achievement component that I sort of ignore, plus notifications that remind you when it's time to workout (you control when and how they go off).

I like that the workout is intense enough to feel it (usually during the step-ups, which is only the fifth circuit from the top), but quick enough that I can squeeze it in almost anytime.

What workouts actually keep you working out?
