Review: Paleo Treats

One of the things I enjoyed about living in San Diego was discovering a cool little community of paleo businesses and eaters.

I had the opportunity to grab coffee with the people of Paleo Treats a while back and I wanted to share a little bit about these five phenomenal desserts that have — NBD — become the best-selling paleo desserts in history.

.The Paleo Treats gang (led by Iron Man Nik Hawks and artist Lee Selman) has been churning out preservative-free, paleo, certified gluten-free goodies since 2009. Everything is made from real food by real people for real people. They have a cute little office in The Glashaus in Barrio Logan, but they'll ship almost anywhere — like directly to your mouth.

Now, about the treats. Nick and Lee generously hooked me up with one of each of their five desserts (thank you!) and I can honestly recommend every single one of them, but I do have two favorites.

The Mustang Bar

This thing (pictured above) doesn't even have chocolate in it and ended up being my favorite, so that's saying something. It's this rich combination of almond butter, coconut oil, walnuts, honey, almonds, raisins, pumpkin seeds, almond flour, coconut, vanilla and salt. A little salty and a little sweet — it's the perfect dessert.

The Bandito

The Bandito is the answer to chocolate cravings. This almond butter cup tastes like all the best parts of a Reese's peanut butter cup but without that off-putting, corn syrupy aftertaste. It has become one of their best sellers, and that makes a lot of sense.

Really though. If you're not ordering a huge box for yourself and your loved ones right now, what ARE you doing?
